Pistoia and Florence

We just got back to Pisa after a few days on the road.  Sonya's cousin Rob is here for a couple of weeks visit.  His daughter is working as a nanny about 60 km from here so he figured it was too good of an opportunity to pass up - visit his daughter and get to see Italy all in one go.  She (Hanna) is working near Pistoia, so we drove over on Sunday, picked her up, and went to a blues festival in Pistoia.  It was setup in the main town square, and was very interesting watching the bands play in the old town square, the modern music in the midst of the historical buildings.  Here are a couple of pics:

We spent 2 nights in Florence and did pretty much all the tourist stuff - we saw David, bought some souvenirs and drank some overpriced drinks.  Florence is very beautiful and crowded at this time of year!

This is the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge.  The shops are mostly jewelers and cater to tourists, but apparently this is where a lot of butchers used to be located.  (I learned this from the latest Dan Brown novel :-))

Florence skyline.

One of many churches.

The famous Duomo.  Check out the crowds!  There were lineups for just about everything.  We didn't do into the Duomo but we did see Michelangelo's David (sorry no pics allowed :-().

And of course the famous Mona Lisa.
